Just overheard a story from Kiss online Radio (a Taiwanese radio station):
A king goes to suburban area to see what’s going on around his kingdom. As he is walking, the bumpy and rough road is killing his sensitive feet.
After he returns to the palace, he announces that every road in the kingdom has to be paved with leather.
However, during a period of time, people find that, to pave leather on the road is not only costing lots of money, but also running out of leather in the country.
One vassal suggests: “instead of paving all the road with leather, why not pave the leather under the sole?” turns out, the idea works well and save lots of resources for the kingdom.
It is said, that is the origin of the leather shoe.
Maybe we cannot have the world adjusts only for us, but we can improve ourselves for a better living. =)

Merry Christmas everyone!

being an adult not mean losing friends
I've heard it many times, since I was a kid:
"Friends you have while being at school are the only real friends."
“Friends you meet after entering the society are just superficial.”
"You cannot find true friends once you leave the school."
Or, even "you cannot find true love once you enter the adult world."
(For once, I really believed that I have to find someone when I am a student, or I will never find my "true love.”)
When I graduated and first started to work, I kept a distance with my coworkers. I was not mentioning my personal life. People came to me with requests, and I solved for them immediately.
I thought that was so-called "professional" - stick to the business, serious, and efficient.
However, throughout the time, I become more and more familiar with my work surrounding and develop certain rapport with my colleagues. We chat, communicate, and participate in various activities. Then, I realize, that makes us more “humane.” When discuss business, we are not only a “working machine.” I am comfortable with them and I care about them. We are making progress and we are able to shake off frustrations. I am no more pretending “Miss Perfect,” and having more fun.
Are they “real friends?” If you define friends as “one attached to another by affection or esteem” (from Webster) or “help each other’s out in good time or bad time” – yes, they are.
As for "you cannot find true love once you enter the adult world" part...Of course, the myth was broken right after I found Baby. ;)

The Day After Thanksgiving Sale

Walmart

It’s only about what people do
Tuesday, T asked me with a wondering face,
“how come you still have so many October orders in the open files?”
I thought she was too critical.
I cannot start reconciling until receiving the October ledgers, which we just got it on Monday.
Moreover, I’ve been devoting myself to Dr. G’s various requests while a unit under my hand is having two major grants, other 3 new faculty having big & old open files, and I’ve cleaned so many pending tasks.....
I was yelling at heart (thank god I didn't actually say it) defensively, “it’s not fair! Are you saying I am not efficient?”
And then, yesterday, she came in and told me, with a relaxed smile,
“I will be on vacation next week.”
I finally realize. She was just worried that I may not be able to finish all the report stuff before the new month hit, and I am having training classes these days, and we will be all off during Thanksgiving next Thursday and Friday.
I finally realize, she was just trying to help as much as she can when she’s around.
**Lesson learned (over and over):
It’s only about what people do, not what people say.
